XAVIER SIMEON AHEAD OF THE PACK, THE DUCATI XEROX
JUNIOR TEAM’S ADVANTAGE IS EXTENDED; DANIELE BERETTA
5TH
Brno (Czech Republic), Sunday 26th July 2009 – Xavier
Simeon takes his second consecutive win of the season with
the Ducati Xerox Junior Team at Brno and thus extends his
championship lead. A strong result for Beretta too who concluded
the race fifth.
This is an important win for Xavier. The Belgian rider had
to fight his main rival Maxime Berger for most of the race,
swapping places several times, but the second half of the
race was harder for Xavier, who began to suffer from lack
if grip at the rear. Maintaining his determination, Xavier
was preparing for the final attack when Berger crashed out,
leaving the young Belgian to cross the finish line alone.
His advantage in the overall classification has now increased
to 26 points, over Claudio Corti, who today finished sixth.
XAVIER SIMEON – “It
was a very difficult race because Berger was very fast. In
the initial stages I managed to take the lead but his rhythm
didn’t allow me to get away from him. I preferred to
watch him from behind and prepare for the final push, even
though, to be honest, it would have been hard to beat him.
On the last lap, I saw him go wide entering one of the corners
and then he overdid the gas and flew off. After this I just
concentrated on getting to finish line as quickly as possible.
It’s an important result because all of my main rivals
have demonstrated their pace so we must remain focused. Thanks
to all the team.”
A good race for Daniele Beretta who was caught up in a close
battle with the chasing group. The Italian rider made a few
small errors in the closing stages but with today’s
result he takes home more valuable points.
DANIELE BERETTA – “It
was a great race but I’m not particularly happy. I maintained
a good pace at the start and I knew I could carve my way through
the chasing group. Sadly in the last laps I lost focus and
made a few mistakes too many. It’s a pity, because I
think I could have reached the podium today but I have, however,
taken some good points for the championship.”
